London: Printed for the proprietors; and sold by all booksellers in town and country, 1795. 357pp, [1]. The title page is a cancel; a reissue of Hogg's edition of [1794] without the advertisement on the verso of p.357. Contemporary sheep, contrasting red calf lettering-piece. Rubbed and marked, some surface loss to upper board and spine. Recent book-label of J. F. Fuggles to FEP, contemporary inked ownership inscription of M. Lodge to recto of FFEP, a trifle toned. A revised edition of Scottish poet Tobias Smollett's (1721-1771) translation of Alain Rene Le Sage's (1688-1747) influential picaresque novel. Smollett's masterful adaptation of the text first appeared in 1748; of the 3000 copies printed fewer than 400 remained unsold after four months. The work would reach it's tenth edition by 1790. ESTC T135691.. New edition, revised and corrected. 8vo.
