Impressively produced edition of Cervantes' landmark work intended to echo the epochal 1780 Spanish edition by Joaquin Ibarra, using Smollett's 1755 translation. Featuring 22 engravings by Bromley after Spanish masterworks by Carnicero and Barranco. With a brief biography of Cervantes and Smollett's preface. List of subscribers. Bound in full leather with inner and outer dentelles. Marbled end-papers. 8vo. Volumes I & II have been sympathetically rebound with the originals boards and spine laid down. Mild cracking to joints of vols III & IV. Previous owner's bookplate to front pastedowns. Genera' rubbing and bumping to edges, mild marks to covers. Tanning to page edges and occasional light spotting/staining within. Bindings sound. A nice example. Good+
