The Coos Turnpike extended from Haverhill in the Connecticut Valley to Warren in the valley of Baker's River. It was eleven & one-half miles in length. The turnpike system was an experiment that attempted to solve the transportation problem following the Revolutionary War & prior to the advent of the railroad. This toll road was completed in 1807.
