This edition is printed upon laid paper of fine quality specially made for the Navarre Society, and. Is strictly limited. The plates are faithfully reproduced in reduced facsimile from the famous Edition published by Tonson in 1737-1738. The engraved Titles are taken from the First English Edition, 1612-1620
The plot revolves around the adventures of a noble ( hidalgo) from La Mancha named Alonso Quixano, who reads so many chivalric romances that he loses his mind and decides to become a knight-errant ( caballero andante) to revive chivalry and serve his nation, under the name Don Quixote de la Mancha. Very Good, solid, clean some foxing, both volumes, on pace-downs and first end papers, slight spotting on few pages. Green cloth over boards, gold designs on front covers some light spotting to front and back covers. Spines has light green cloth over boards, extensive gold designs and lettering. Gilt at top edge. Hinge on Vol 1 is cracked, not detached. Fore-edge and tail have a deckle
cut. It leads me to believe that these two volumes were never read, at least not completely read. Approximately 50% of each volume have uncut pages, which mean these pages have not been read. I did not attempt to cut them.
