BOMC dot on back cover. Previous owner's signature / library stamp on front endpapers. Shelf wear with a few bumped corners and stains. Volume 1 has cracked hinges. Not an ex-library or remainder copy. Multivolume set; S&H will be adjusted.

These four, fully-indexed volumes are the complete and unabridged production of the work for which Churchill was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature.
Volume One: The Birth of Britain traces the history of Britain from Roman times through the ascent of the Tudors to the throne in 1485 and the eve of discovery of the New World.
Volume Two: The New World covers two centuries of exploration and discovery of lands previously unknown. Mixed in is civil war and extensive changes in the English Monarchy, law, and religion. It leads to the escape of James II in 1688.
Volume Three: The Age of the Revolution describes a period of a little more than 100 years that endured three revolutions. Each of these led to war with France. This part of the saga ends with The Congress of Vienna in 1815 and the beginning of order in Europe that would last about a hundred years.
Volume Four: The Great Democracies describes how the defeat of Napoleon established England as the unrivaled master of a large part of the world. Insights to the growth of the Empire following Napoleon's death and the end of the Boer War, influence of America's Civil War.
