[7], viii-xxiv, [1], 2-468, [2]; [5], vi-xi, [2], 2-407, [3] pp. Brown cloth with three borders in blind on each board, gilt lettering and rules on each spine; brown topstain. Brown coated endpapers and pastedowns. The revised third edition. Lecky's history of ideas as they evolved in Europe (with a focus on science and philosophy); his work was quite beloved by the reading public. A few bumps to the boards' corners, a tiny scuff on the spine of volume one. A small archival tape mend on the free front endpaper of volume one.
