This is an outrageously beautiful edition of The History of Freemasonry. I have owned a few of these over the years, but this particular printing is without question the most well-kept and stunning printing I have ever owned or seen. It includes an in-depth history of the Masons that dates back centuries. Although its focus is mostly the Freemasons its context delves much deeper with passages in spirituality, the esoteric, and even ancient mythology. A masterful book and a hard volume to come across. It is not only a lovely book but also a historically important one. I would snag this before it's gone... It has an 1898 stamp; however, it may, in fact, be older. Google Books show a date of 1885 for this publisher; regardless, it is a gem of a find.
Robert Freke Gould (10 November 1836 – 26 March 1915) was a soldier, barrister, and prominent Freemason and Masonic historian. He wrote a History of Freemasonry (6 vols.) (London: Thomas C. Jack, 1883–1887), which remains a standard reference work on the subject.
This book originally came in a set; this is the very hard to come by Vol. 1.
