A. Fullarton and Co., 1838. Hardcover. Good/No Jacket. Good ; No jackets. 1838 A. Fullarton and Co., Glasgow. Four volumes, complete. NOT ex-library. Each volume is half bound (spine, part of the boards, and corners) in brown leather by Riviere over hand-marbled boards with combed swirl pattern in red, cream, and green. Spine has five raised bands. Two panels have gilt lettering with author and volume on one and title on another. Remaining four panels have ruled gilt borders, as do covers. "Bound by Riviere" on verso of front free endpaper. Top edges gilt. Deckle fore and bottom edges. Matching marbled endpapers. Silk index ribbons. Black and white plates. Volume 1 has large fold-out map of Scotland with hand-painted district borders. Armorial bookplate, imprinted with "John Sheepshanks 1852" on front endpaper of each volume. Two bookplates have additional handwritten date of 1845 and one has 1847. Leather worn at corners and spine ends; rubbed through at tips and some edges. Marbled boards have light surface and edge wear, as well as some surface rubbing. Pages lightly and uniformly tanned but still supple. Mild foxing to first and last few pages of each volume with sporadic sparse foxing to interior pages, especially near plates. Some plates are tanned. A few pencil notations on verso of front free endpaper of Volume 1. A few pages have light handling smudges. 447, 478, 504, 501 pages. Printed in Glasgow, Scotland, Fullarton & Co., Printers, Villafield. No dust jackets. Carefully packed, shipped in a box. This item will be shipped with signature confirmation required.
