Saunders and Otley, 1842. Hardcover. Good/No Jacket. Good ; No jackets. 1842 - 1849 Saunders and Otley, Conduit Street, London. Originally four volumes, now bound in two. Vols. 1 and 2 dated 1842; vol. 3, 1843; and vol. 4, 1849. NOT ex-library. Hardcovers, half-bound (spine, part of the boards, and corners) in brown leather over red, white, and blue narrow combed marbled paper. Matching marbled endpapers. All page edges marbled in same pattern as well. Spine has five gilt embellished raised bands and gilt lettering. Title on red panel, author and volume numbers on black panel; remaining panels have elaborate with gilt devices. Hinges NOT cracked. Corners and spine ends bumped and rubbed, with boards exposed at some tips. Covers have moderate surface and edge wear, with some rubbing and peeling to the surface of the leather along exterior hinge lines, edge, and corners. One signature in the second bound volume (within vol. 3) is loose but still attached. Imprinted bookplate on front endpaper of first bound volume. Verso of front free endpaper that volume has a few small notations in pencil. Pages lightly and uniformly tanned but still supple. A few pages have some sparse foxing in margins; a few pages have a small spot or smudge. Pages otherwise clean and unmarked. 402 + 419; 431 + 447 pages. Spine title: "Life of Richard Coeur-de-Lion". No dust jackets. Printing information: Vols 1 & 2 "London: Blatch and Lampert, Printers, Grove Place, Brompton." Vol 3 "T. C. Savill, Printer, 107, St. Martin's Lane." Vol 4 "Savill & Edwards, Printers, 4, Chandos-street, Covent-garden." Carefully packed, shipped in a box. This item will be shipped with signature confirmation required.
