About This Item

Batsford Academic and Educational, London - 1984 hardcover, 7½" x 10", with dust jacket Ours is an ex-library copy in transparent protective covering, with usual stamps, stickers, and barcode. GOOD book in GOOD unclipped dust jacket One important aspect of men's fashion is the degree to which styles common to women's costume have been adopted: the cote-hardie, for example, and the tall hats with ribbons and feathers so popular in Elizabethan times. In the resoration period high-heels shoes and frilled decorations were favoured by both sexes, as were jewellery and make-up. These styles, as well as the influence of military costume on men's fashion, through the Classical, Victorian and Edwardian periods led to the mass-manufactured, ready-to-wear garments following World War One, and the impact of 'casuals' in the 1930s, are all described and illustrated here.
