(Christchurch, Whitcombe and Tombs, 1957). Dustwrapper, frayed with slight loss, original cloth, slightly mottled, pp. (xii) + 316, plates. Light foxing. From the collection of Edgar Brookes. Inscribed by the author to 'Dr & Mrs E.H. Brookes' in 1958. (Brookes was visiting professor at the University of Otago in New Zealand in 1959.) Edgar Harry Brookes was a political scientist who served on the South African delegation to the League of Nations (1927). He also founded and was later president of the South African Institute of Race Relations. He served in the Senate as a 'Native Representative,' and was ordained into the Anglican ministry late in life. .
