Wood, published in 1865.. Twelvemo, xii, [13]-240pp. Publisher's original green cloth, title in copper print on spine, embossed decorative borders, wear to cloth at top edge of spine. Previous ownership inscription on front free endpaper in pencil. Light foxing to endpapers and title page, some wear to outer edge of text block, clean text throughout. (Dornbusch I: 310) (Nevins I: 181) (Tubbs, 218) A scarce pre-fire printing from Chicago. The Illinois 95th participated in the Vicksburg Campaign, occupying Natchez after the Siege of Vicksburg was complete. After a summer in Natchez, they joined the Red River Campaign, but were forced back to Vicksburg after a swift defeat by Confederate forces.
