Burgundy Morocco title plate with gilt lettering. Gilt compartment borders. Tight binding and solid boards. Moderate shelf wear. Bumping to corners. Scuffing to board edges. Rubbing to boards. Slight cracking to spine edges. Fraying to spine ends. Excessive notation to preliminary pages of volume, including several sketches of birds. Notes in rear as well. Moderate darkening to pages. Slight chipping to edges. Fold out maps associated with these volumes are missing, as well as the title page and pages 1-2 of volume two. Missing text provided in crude facsimile. From the personal library of David McConaughy, noted attorney, cemetery president, and civil leader in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. During the Civil War, McConaughy served as a part-time intelligence officer for the Union Army; He later became a driving force behind the creation of the Gettysburg National Cemetery. A well-used copy of this landmark historical account, volume is in reasonable and readable condition.
