Bound in full brown period calf, spined with gilt tooling, twin red and brown leather labels, covers bordered with a single gilt rule (bindings rebacked with original chipped and worn spines laid down; some wear to boards). Contents: volume 1, part 1. The history of the Reformation of the Church of England. Of the progress made in it during the reign of King Henry VIII volume 1, part 2. A collection of records and original papers, with other instruments referred to in the former history volume 2, part 1. Of the progress made in it till the settlement of it in the beginning of Queen Elizabeth's reign volume 2, part 2. A collection of records and original papers; with other instruments referred to in the second part of the history of the Reformation of the Church of England PROVENANCE: Engraved armorial bookplate in each volume (featuring a lion and stag an angled shield quartered with 2 lions and 1838 date surrounded by text we simply can not decipher).
