Oxford: Oxford University Press, 1934. First Edition. First impression. Two large octavo volumes (26cm). Original black cloth hardcovers, titled in gilt on spines; dustjackets; xii,[1]-408; viii,[1]-388pp. Mild bumps to board corners; attractive printed bookplate of the Romanian-American Jewish scholar Shalom Spiegel (1899-1984) inside each front cover; texts clean, tight and unmarked - Near Fine. In the original printed dustwrappers, chipped at edges, toned and with some closed tears into margins; just VG.

The second of the renowned Latinist's major works, following A History of Christian-Latin Poetry from the Beginnings to the Close of the Middle Ages (1927). Seldom found in such nice condition, especially with the original dustwrappers.
