Various eds., early issues, octavo., 6 vols; Vols I (1835) & II (1838): third eds; Vol III (1833): second ed; Vols IV (1834), V (1836) & VI (1840): first eds; engraved maps and plans, light foxing mainly to prelims of all vols, some water-staining, heavier foxing to latter pages including maps, half leather rubbed, maroon labels to dec. spines, marbled bds worn, from the library of of "Sir John Forrest" with his book-plate to all volumes except the earliest published volume (1833), good condition. General Sir William Francis Patrick Napier KCB (1785-1860) was a British General and historian who served in the Napoleonic Wars, in particular the Peninsular War which was a military conflict between Napoleon's empire and the allied powers of Spain, Britain and Portugal, for control of the Iberian Peninsula. The six volumes are Napier's personal account of this war. From the estate of early Western Australian pioneer and former Premier, Sir John Forrest, who had an interest in militaria. Early Issue. Half leather.
