The Hokusai Sketchbooks: Selections from the Manga was first compiled and published in 1958. Katsushika Hokusai was a very famous artist, ukiyo-e painter and printmaker of the Edo period in Japan. This specific collection contains artwork that Michener considered most significant from the 15 volumes of the Hokusai Manga.
