About This Item

London, Swansea, etc: William Mackenzie. Good+ with no dust jacket. 1868. Reprint. Hardcover. Full title = Holl Weithiau Prydyddawl a Rhyddieithol y Diweddar Barch William Williams Pant y Celyn. Dan Olygiaeth y Parch. Kilsby Jones; Gyda Chofiant yr Awdwr gan y Golygydd; Ynghyda Thraethawd ar ei Athrylith Fel Bard Cristionogol, gan y Parch Willliam Rees. The Collected Works, Poetry & Prose, of the Rev. William Williams of Pant y Celyn. Edited by the Rev. Kilsby Jones and an essay on his Genius as a Christian Poet by the Rev. William Rees. (Tho I can't find this latter 'essay' in the book - but I don't speak/read Welsh and may have missed this? It also may have been left out in this later as a reprint, but the T/p left in? ). The book is ALMOST ENTIRELY in WELSH, with a few exceptions = "A Serious Address" written at Pant y Celyn in august 1790, and an Elergy, etc. , which are in English. 9" by 11". Half leather (leather to spine & corners) with gilt banding and bright gilt titling to the spine. Some small leather strips missing from the edge/inner edges. Cloth covers, which are discoloured and faded in patches, edges rubbed, 2" split at the front joint at the top of the inner spine, but ALL holding tight and overall a Good plus sound copy with tight hinges. Looks plain, but handsome, on the shelf. (4) + 768 pages, slight old light stain to the edges of the blank margins of the last 80 pages or so. Plain pale green (light edge discolouration) endpapers. Engraved frontispiece of Pant-y-Celyn cottage, and engraved title page, with vignette, followed by a second printed title page. 3 other full page engravings in the book. Pages uniformly 'toned' throughout, but generally clean, with some pale foxing (light brown spotting) to the engraved title pages and prelims mainly, and edges/plain reverse of the plates, some scattered spotting occasionally but overall quite clean throughout. No date circa 1868? . Apparently 3 editions were published between 1867 and 1868 in Welsh and Multiple languages. An essential work for the student of one of the greatest Nonconformists & Hymn writers. This book is overweight and will require extra postage for International customers only depending on your location. WELSH TEXT with a little English. See Images. ; 4to 11" - 13" tall .
