About This Item

New York: Weidenfeld & Nicolson, 1986. First Edition, First Printing. . Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good. The twelfth novel by Purdy, whose stories are often about "outsiders" and who remains greatly under-appreciated in spite of considerable praise from America's literary establishment. This novel is about the crisis erupting in a small, midwest town when Decatur, an Ojibway Indian and recently returned decorated veteran of World War I, claims the only son of a prominent family as his child and resulting in scandal and family tragedy. Text edges show light foxing, o/w boards and text are clean and unmarked, tight and square. The inside top edge of the dustjacket also lightly foxed, o/w dj shows only minor rubbing on back panel; no tears, no chipping or creasing, not price-clipped. A collectable copy.
