About This Item
Bangalore, India: Overseas Women's Club of Bangalore (First Printing, March 1997, 1000 copies printed). Trade paperback with plastic coil binding, 355 pages + Index. Clean and unmarked. Binding intact.
The Overseas Women's Club of Bangalore was founded by a group of missionary women in the mid-1960s. Until the 1990s, the size of the membership fluctuated greatly, reaching approximately 50 members in September 1993. The membership was small, and the members met in each other's homes. With the influx of many multi-national companies into Bangalore, the OWC has grown. Expatriates and foreign wives of Indian men make up the bulk of the membership. In 1997, the membership was quickly approaching the 250 mark. The Windsor Manor Sheraton & Towers hosted the club's Monthly Meetings, New Member's Coffee Mornings, and New Member's Cocktail Parties.
The OWC welcomes foreign newcomers to Bangalore and helps them establish themselves in the community. It promotes interaction between its members and introduces them to the cultural and social activities of Bangalore. The needs of charitable associations associated with the welfare of women and children in Bangalore are reviewed every year and supported by the OWC.
