Feeny tells the stories of "fliers for whom United States Air Force Bases are named," and "brings together for the first time the stories of personal dedication, heroism, and sacrifice that have been characteristic of airmen throughout the history of American aviation, in war and peace." Included are stories about Octave Chanute, Samuel Pierpont Langley, Thomas Etholen Selfridge, Raynal Cawthorne Bolling, Frank Luke Jr., Eugene Hoy Barksdale, Carl Benjamin Eielson, Ernest Emery Harmon, Horace Meek Hickam, Jean Donat Grenier, Frank Jesse Otis, Bruce Kilpartick Craig Jr., Claire Lee Chennault, William Edwin Dyess, Fred Junior McConnell, Thomas Leverne McConnell, Thomas Buchanan McGuire Jr., Leon Robert Vance Jr., Glen Walter Edwards, Daniel Hugh Forbes Jr., Charles Joseph Loring Jr., David Carl Schilling, and Iven Carl Kincheloe Jr. The inscription reads, "To/A.V.M. J.B. Harvey, RCAF/With best wishes from/Bill Feeny/(Enroute to the DEWline, 5 May '64)". Air Vice-Marshall Harvey was international commissioner of Scouts Canada, and in 1974 was presented with the Bronze Wolf Award for outstanding service to international Scouting. Blue cloth w/silver decoration to front cover, silver lettering to spine, 223 pages (including selected reading list, index). Light wear to corners/spine ends, dampstaining/fading to cover edges, tanned edges, in lightly edgeworn dust jacket w/moderately sunned spine, flaked folds, 1" tear to top edge of rear panel, a couple of other shorter tears. Jacket now in protective mylar sleeve..
