Octavo (205x132mm) in 18th century brown calf with gilt title HEURES ANTIQUE and decorated edges (corners & spine tips very worn), printed on parchment (gothic letter 33 lines on each text page with illuminated borders), 18 pages with full-page brilliantly hand-coloured and gilt-bordered illuminations. Leaves start with un-numbered blank, then Ai recto Title without ornament, anatomical man & 4 smaller figures on verso, Aii-4 (A4 Almanack & verso full page illuminated plate of female saint with chalice raising 2 dead men watched by crowd. Three Small (40x22mm) evangelists to next pages [first two smudged] B1 Judas kissing Christ as he is apprehended by soldiers while Peter draws his sword. B3v & B4r Elizabeth meeting Mary facing Annunciation. C2r King, Queen & attendants seeing vision of Mary & baby, C7r Crucifixion C8r Virgin on throne w.holy ghost & large congregation, D1r Birth of Christ in stable (some colour loss to blue of Virgin's robe), D3v Annunciation to shepherd, D6r Adoration of 3 Kings, D8v Virgin's robe & sl.smudging) E3r Flight into Egypt on donkey, E6v Death of Virgin, F5v Battle scene with horses, F6r Knight handing King a message, G4v King? & lady at table with servants bringing food, G5r Christ raising Lazarus.[some smudging] J3r =small resurrection of Christ w.angel + Mary J4r=small 2 female saints? K1r=small Martyrdom of St.Stephen [smudged] & K1v=small bishop baptizing K2r=small saint K2v=2 small saint Anthony + Small St.Anna [Anna smudged] K3r=small St.Mary Magdalen + small St.Katarine [sl.smudging] K3r= small St.Margaret [sl.smudged] + Small St.Barbara K4r=small St.Apolonia K5v=small Ressurection K8r=Angel gariel and Virgin L2v Ascension of Mary (Mary is uncoloured) L8r Finis L8v Laus Deo. First 2 leaves and corner of 3rd are browned & some fading/smudging. All full page illuminated plates are within a gold-wash architectral frame and these are often cropped at the top; J6r has dirt to blank lower corner. Last leaf browned and with 8mm round hole in vellum and damage to illuminated border. L7 with brown stain to upper corner but border & text still visible; lower brown stain affects blank margin only, L5 & 6 with minor browning mainly marginal. Every page that is not a full page illustration has a 160mm by 170mm or wider border with foliation, fruit, flowers & gilt as well as line spacers, red or blue ground to gilt initials, never fewer than 5 and often about 20 initials. *This is a full 8vo size (250x124mm) and not the more usual pocket size. Date of publication not given but certainly 1509 from address "au bout du pont nostre Dame" - by 1510 Hardouyn had moved to "pres du Palais".
