Anita Brookner, born July 1928, is an English novelist and art historian and is considered one of the great contemporary writers of English fiction. Brookner is highly regarded as a stylist. Her fiction, which has been duly influenced by her own life experiences, explores themes of isolation, emotional loss and difficulties and typically depicts intellectual middle-class women.
