New York: Random House - A U. S. Camera Book, 1958. First Printing Stated . Hard Back. Very Good/No Dust Jacket. 5 1/2" x 8. 205 pages. Blank endpapers. Mauve and black cloth cover with front cover gilt decoration with the number 923 which is the room number where stories are set. A collection of stories set in the same hotel room spanning a 60 year period.. Top page edges are black. There are a couple of small dings on the bottom cover edges and the corners exhibit very minor wear. Straight and very tight book with white pages and no marks or stamps. The appearance of a book that was well-cared-for and read little. Contents in Seven Stories: The Night of June 20th 1896, The Night of April 6th 1917, The Night of November 11th 1918, The Night of February 17th 1924, The Night of October 24th 1929, The Night Of...., and the Night of September 30th 1957. The author'sfirst novel was published in 1926 and in the suceeding years he gained considerable reputation in the fileds of mystery and suspense. Two of his earlier novels, The Bride Wore Black and Phantom Lady (written under the pseudonmym of William Irish), are classics in the field. Many of his short stories appear in dozens of anthologies and also adapted for television and motion pictures.
