About This Item

London: Chatto & Windus, 1914. Brown paper dustwrapper is present, but in poor shape: torn in two at the spine, creasing and tears to the edges, and the folds of inner flaps starting to give way as well. Some wear to ends of gray cloth spine strip and to corners of gray paper-covered boards, mark on half-title where original owner's gift message (?) has been erased, a loose note dated 1944 from the original purchaser of the book who gifted it to an old lady in 1914, the book coming back to him later and being gifted to a niece. Otherwise a good clean tight copy of this large-format (12" by 10") hard-cover book. Contains ten full-page b&w drawings, each one mounted on purple card with tissue overlay, illustrating Francis Thompson's poem "The Hound of Heaven" by one Frideswith Huddart. I see only three other copies online (September 2022), and no others with the original dustwrapper. Also includes a small paper-covered booklet of the poem inside front board, this one published by Burns & Oates.. First Edition. Hard Cover. Good/Fair. Illus. by Huddart, Frideswith. 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall.
