Large, sturdy book, quality yellow cloth with red title and illustration of desert grass at bottom front, lightly browned inside covers, 149 heavy pages. A treasure trove of color photos and postcard glued inside front and back covers, on first front end paper and its reverse, on second front end paper and reverse, including an ink note identifying the places including Black Mesa, a large color-illustrated card glued on most of title page. On bottom half of page 149 in blue ink, a note regarding that Edith Warner's home was the gathering places for scientists at Los Alamos, citing F. Staley's "The Los Alamos Story," and a quotation from Mary Austin.. On reverse of the final end paper, a long note in blue ink regarding the nuclear scientists by author regarding the blackest of magic. On inside of back cover along spine, "For Neville Barry, So happy to know her at long last. Peggy Pond Church. October 12, 1976. Facsimile copies of typed letters to and from Pond and Barry, including four loose color photos and an illustration cut from magazine, plus an envelope dated May 11, 1971 from Church to Barry, with typed letter signed thanking the latter's praise of book, and setting up a meeting in Santa Fe. DJ beneath mylar, tan background with illustration of black desert grass at bottom front, in red at bottom back. DJ is badly worn, separated into two pieces, with some small chips. Fair DJ/Fine book.
