NY: Knopf, 1991. First Edition . Hardcover. Fine/Near Fine. Stated sixth printing of the first US edition of the author's firat book, fine in a near fine dust jacket. The price clipped jacket has a crease near the top of the rear panel, and the jacket is very bright and clean. Translated by Magda Bogin. Inscribed on the front endpaper by the author: "Para Felipe & Johnny Isabel Allende" with a drawing of a flower by her signature.
Synopsis
The House of the Spirits (La casa de los espíritus, 1982) is the debut novel by Isabel Allende. Initially, the novel was rejected by several Spanish-language publishers, but became an instant best seller when published in Barcelona in 1982. The novel was critically acclaimed around the world, and catapulted Allende to literary stardom. That same year, the novel was named Best Novel of the Year in Chile, and she received the country's Panorama Literario award.
