Contents include 'Young America, A lecture delivered by Henry Ward Beecher', at the Cooper Institute, November 19, 1860 (pp 174-175); 'Lecture on Electric Light', by Professor Faraday (pp 204-205); 'A Lecture on Life in the Arctic Regions', by Bayard Taylor, Hope Chapel December 17, 1860 (pp 252 - 253); 'Lecture on the Equatorial Mountains of Africa' by P. du Chaillu, New York Geographical Society, January 1, 1861 (pp 282-283). du Chaillu is recognized as the first modern non African to confirm the existence of gorillas; and an early detective story, 'Recollections of a London Detective, No. 1, The Dramatic Author' (pp 340- 342).
Large 4to, 416pp. Quarter black leather and black buckram boards. Rear board detached, front board attached at lower edge by amateur stitching; spine chipped. Early and late pages dusty, ruffled. As is. WorldCat records only electronic copies.
