About This Item

New York: Charles Scribner & Sons, 1960. Quarto (23.3 x 19 cm.), 495 pages. Illustrated. FIRST EDITION. One of the great American cookbooks, appearing on the cusp of America's newfound love affair with food, in the era that also introduced Julia Child's Mastering the Art of French Cooking, and Craig Claiborne's New York Times Cookbook. R.W. Apple described Paddleford as the "Nellie Bly of culinary journalism, and said she was "matched as a regional food pioneer only by James Beard. Clean and sound, in publisher's orange-tan cloth. The unclipped dust jacket has a faint dampstain, visible only on the jacket's interior; a bit of wear to the head of the spine, with a 2 cm. closed tear to the top of the spine fold. Fine in a near very good dust jacket. Signed by the author on the free front end paper.
