About This Item

This is a quite rare book with a clean cover; its 336pgs are clean and crisp. The dust jacket has some wear and tape repair.

This book is an edited and abridged version of texts first published by James Monroe and Company of Boston in 1836 and 1837. The author of those texts, friend and sometimes mentor to Emerson and Thoreau, was also a visionary educator who believed that the psyche of a child already carries within it the imprint of spirit and wisdom. At his school in Boston in the 1830s, he held this extraordinary series of conversations on such themes as spirit, consciousness, conscience, love, humility, the Holy Ghost, and the knower.
