About This Item

New York/London: Harper & Brothers. Very Good+. 1918. 1st Edition (K-S). Hardcover. (no dust jacket) [quite a nice-looking copy, gilt lettering strong and fully readable on both front cover and spine, just minor wear to the extremites -- but with one unfortunate blemish, that being a whitish smudge/scrape of some sort (about 1 inch square) at the bottom of the spine, also a couple of tiny white stains on the rear cover -- almost as if someone with slightly paint-stained hands had picked it up once]. (B&W photographs) A behind-the-scenes look at film production, one of the first aimed at a general readership, with chapter titles like "The Things That Mystify Audiences" and "The Mechanics of Making Millions Laugh." The author, a native of Missouri, had already written a number of movie scenarios at the time this book was published, and he continued to write for the movies while also enjoying a highly successful career as a novelist. Many of his books had Midwestern backgrounds, and of course he had to try his hand at least once at a Hollywood novel, "Headed for Hollywood" (1932). **** NOTE: additional shipping charges for this heavy-ish book will be requested for international shipping, or for Priority Mail service in the U.S.; if this concerns you, please contact us for a shipping quote before placing your order. **** .
