Downsview, Ontario: Toronto And Region Conservation Authority, 2009. 117 pp, square (11 1/2" H x 11 1/2" D). Profusely illustrated with colour and b&w photographs, maps, charts. "On September 25, 1999, the Humber River was officially designated a Canadian Heritage River. This designation acknowledges the Humber's outstanding human heritage and the significant contribution it has made to the development of Canada through exploration, settlement and commerce. It was the Carrying Place Trail that was the hallmark of the Humber's heritage river designation. The first stage of the trail starts at the mouth of the Humber at Lake Ontario and goes 60 kilometres overland to meet the Holland River in the Township of King. The Trail was one of the first and most widely used transportation routes in Ontario leading to Midland on Georgian Bay and beyond. It was established and used by First Nations for millennia and subsequently used by the French and English in the 18th century. Because of its history, the Carrying Place Trail has also been designated nationally significant by the Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada. This book commemorates the 10th anniversary of the Humber River's designation."
