Harper & Brothers Pub, 1887-01-01. Hardcover. Good. First edition, as pictured. Good copy, decorated front board, spine coloring slightly mottled else good. Hinges are tight, endpapers are clean. Textblock is sound and clean. A few very minor spots at front edge. Wilkins (later Freeman) was an important 19th century woman author. In April 1926, she became the first recipient of the William Dean Howells Medal for Distinction in Fiction from the American Academy of Arts and Letters. Humble Romance, first published in 1887 to wide popularity, tells stories of rural New England (mostly women) folk.
