REESE, DAVID MERIDETH, M.D. Humbugs of New-York: Being a Remonstrance Against Popular Delusion; Whether in Science, Philosophy, or Religion, New York: John S. Taylor, 1838.12mo, first edition, pp. xii, 13-267, 4 (ads), brown cloth boards with gilt lettering to spine. Predating Mackay's "Extraordinary Popular Delusions and the Madness of Crowds," this book was a "humble attempt to furnish a corrective to the prevailing fanaticism of the day," the author says.
