About the item: The Foundation for the Preservation of Historic Lexington and Fayette County was formed in April, 1955, after one of the oldest and most distinguished homes in the city had been razed. This was the two-story brick house on the southwest corner of Second and Mill streets in which, at various times, lived Col. Thomas Hart, John Bradford, John Hunt Morgan and his wife, and Miss Laura Clay.
Had it not been for the hasty organization and quick action of the Foundation, the Hunt-Morgan House itself might well have gone the same way. Instead, it was purchased, the Foundation soon changed its name to the Blue Grass Trust for Historic Preservation, and a new and increasingly potent force became a part of Lexington's life.
A sympathy with the aims of the Foundation and a desire to assist in a small way in the protection of the house, the rare Gratz Park area and other notable buildings in Fayette County led to the writing of this booklet late in 1955.
