Description:
Pan. The complete first edition set of the James Bond novels, all published by pan between 1955 and 1968. This is a very good set. The spines for all the copies are in tact and all are well bound. Pleasingly there is no previous owner's ink in any of the copies. The most valuable book is OHMSS and that has a repair to the bottom of the spine but otherwise is in nice condition and in a protective cover. Casino Royale also has very little wear. All the volumes have browned pages as can be expected and some minor wear to the covers. Two or three volumes have creases to the covers. Overall a very good set and rare with all volumes being first print and the earliest state according to Gilbert the bibliography of Fleming's works. . Very Good. Soft cover. 1st Edition. 1st Printing. 1955.

Arthur Barker. Both volumes are First UK editions and first issues published by Barker in 1934. This is a near fine set. I, Claudius has some sunning to the spine and very minor wear to the top of the spine also. But the wrapper is in remarkable condition with no loss at all and being very clean. The back panel is clear from marks. The wrapper is not price clipped. The book's spine is a shade faded also. The book is square and clean with no foxing at all to the text block or to the pages. There are no previous owner's marks. Claudius the God also is a couple of shades sunned to the spine but it has hardly any wear at all. The wrapper has no loss and is in such lovely condition, again with a clean and clear back panel. There is no foxing or other marks to the text block and the book itself presents as very near fine. It is very nice. Overall this is a rare near fine set and one that is difficult to find with these attributes. I, Claudius is a historical novel. Written in the form of an autobiography of the Roman Emperor Claudius, it tells the history of the Julio-Claudian dynasty and the early years of the Roman Empire, from Julius Caesar's assassination in 44 BC to Caligula's assassination in AD 41. Though the narrative is largely fictionalised, most of the events depicted are drawn from historical accounts of the same time period by the Roman historians Suetonius and Tacitus. The "autobiography" continues in a sequel, Claudius the God, which covers the period from Claudius' accession to his death in AD 54. The sequel also includes a section written as a biography of Herod Agrippa, a contemporary of Claudius and a King of the Jews. The two books were adapted by the BBC into the award-winning television serial I, Claudius in 1976. In 1998, the Modern Library ranked I, Claudius fourteenth on its list of the 100 best English-language novels of the 20th century. In 2005, the novel was chosen by Time as one of the 100 best English-language novels from 1923 to present. . Near Fine. Hardcover. 1st Edition. 1st Printing. 1934.
