Chelsea: Ashendene Press; St. John Hornby, 1922. 8vo. 53 woodcuts by J. B. Swain after C. M. Gere, initial letters designed by Graily Hewitt, printed in red and black, sheets untrimmed. Original vellum, gilt-lettered on spine, with silk green ties. Housed in cloth chemise and morocco-backed slipcase. One of 240 copies on paper, of which 200 were for sale (an additional 12 copies were printed on vellum). The last book in Italian published by the press, and the last with contributions by Charles Gere. Franklin calls this and the Vita di Santa Chirara the "Cinderellas among Ashendene Books" (Franklin, p. 138). Ashendene Press XXXI ("It contains 53 illustrations (not 54, as wrongly stated both in the Prospectus and the Hand-List of 1925"); Franklin, p. 240.

Provenance: Charles C. Kalbfleisch (morocco book label; his? pink paper typed description tipped to rear pastedown; sale New York, Parke-Bernet, 10 January 1944).
