New York: E. P. Dutton, 1947. Solid copy in its first printing with First Edition stated on copyright page. His first novel intoduced the deterctive Mike Hammer and became the basis for a film. Signed by author in his early signature on bookplate tipped in on front endpaper. Unmarked, tight and square. Black textured boards with red lettering on spine and top board. Moderately foxed to top page edges. Textblock clean and supple with strong hinge. One lightly bumped tip. Head of spine crimped. Price intact jacket has some insect holes on folds, mostly the rear fold. Some edgewear along both top and bottom edges but very little paper loss. In mylar. . Signed by Author. First American Edition. Hardccover. Very Good to Very Good Plus/VG- to Very Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
