About This Item

Guildford: Genesis Publications Limited,, 1980. The copy of Ringo's manager First edition, first impression, unnumbered from an edition of 2,000 copies signed by the author. This was one of a handful of copies bound in full leather - another was given to Harrison, while the publisher retained one. This copy has the addition of tears falling from the guitar, representing Harrison's song While My Guitar Gently Weeps, and the initials of Hilary Lester Gerard. Gerard was Ringo Starr's business manager from the early 1970s and a director of the Beatles Apple Corps Ltd. The publication of I Me Mine was a watershed moment in the history of the Beatles. "Lennon took offence at being left out of the book altogether. Harrison made an unsuccessful attempt to contact him to discuss this grievance. That December, Lennon was shot dead. Now the Beatles really were history; there could be no reunion" (ODNB). Tall octavo. Original black morocco, raised bands to spine, lettering to spine and front cover gilt, single gilt rules to covers, red morocco guitar onlay to front cover with gilt detail, sheet music endpapers, all edges gilt. Tipped-in photographic frontispiece with tissue guard, 48 photographic plates, folding photographic plate, illustrations in the text. A fine copy.
