About This Item
Madras & New York: Hanuman, 1987. First Edition. Very good/good. Softcover : miniature book format : 10cm x 6.5cm : pp.[7] 29 [32] : blue cover with title in gilt : green jacket with colour illustration of author and gilt lettering.
Small newspaper clipping tapped to first page; toned patches from clipping, including to jacket front sleeve; jacket edges rubbed and a little pressed. John Ashbery (1927-2017) was an American poet and critic. Referred to often as an "avant-garde" poet, "experimentalist", or "surrealist", Ashbery's work resisted easy classification. He was awarded nearly every major prize for an American poet during his career, including a Pulitzer Prize in 1967 for Self-Portrait in a Convex Mirror. - Publisher.
