The seventh novel by France's Pierre Loti, pseudonym of Louis Marie Julien Viaud, was first published in 1886 and is a tale of the sea. It features the author's hero, Yann and a girl, Gaud. This edition has been rendered into English by W. P. Baines. With introductory note by series editor Ernest Rhys. Entry 920 in Everyman's Library "Fiction" series. --- In Everyman's Library binding style 3 with full carmine cloth and gilt-stamped spine titling; blindstamped Eric Ravilious-designed 'shell' to cover and brown topstain. Red jacket features 'EL' design on shell to cover. --- A clean, unmarked, tightly-bound copy. Somewhat brittle jacket with large chips at spine ends (upper one still present), darkened spine and with dampstaining, but remaining mostly intact and protected in new removable mylar wrapper.; 16mo - 6 to 7 in. tall; vii, 242, 4 pages .
