About This Item

The Iceman,The Golden Shaft. Joseph Nazel. Holloway House: Los Angeles, 1974. First edition. Measures 4.25 x 7 inches. 217 pages. The second in Nazel's Iceman series, the story follows its title character as he is "challenged by the deadly gold greed of a ruthless slave labor lord." Cover shows the Iceman on motorcycle popping a wheelie with a gun outstretched and firing a shot. A woman rides behind him in a dune buggy. Holloway House was a publishing imprint of Kensington in operation from the 1960s until 2008 and best known for its proliferation of novels like this one that fall into the pop cultural subgenre of blaxploitation. The term describes work that relies on racial stereotypes for its plot points, although it is often embraced by African American pop culture. Holloway House was beloved by artists like Dave Chapelle and Ice T for being a "culturally authentic" part of the "black literary underground" (Black Perspectives). Crease on front soft cover where folded. Textblock tight and clean. In good condition.
