London: Edward Moxon, 1859. 1st edition, 12mo, 261pp, green cloth blind decorated and lettered gilt to spine, previous owner's name and address to fr pastedown, boards substantially tanned with some rubbing, wear and general tenderness to hinges and extrems; an unclear issue point - Moxon's catalogue for April 1860 is bound in at the front, a previous bookseller has noted in pencil on verso of ffep that this makes it the second issue, we can find no confirmation of this; inner hinges cracked, previous owner's prominent inscription on ffep; not pristine but who would be, generally not a bad example, no better than G Copy. First Edition. Hard Cover. Good. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.
Synopsis
The longest and most ambitious work of his career, Idylls is a reflection of Tennyson's lifelong interest in Arthurian themes. His personification of Arthur, the highest ideal of manhood and leadership, is achieved through a delicacy of phrase and metrical effect that are unmatched.
