Front hinge splitting and threatening to detach. Rear cover detached. Cloth covering of spine loose on left edge but attached on right. Attractive bookplate of previous owner (Chalkley Jay Hambleton of Aurora, IL) pasted inside front cover. Pages through p. 12 loose and laid in.
This is a scarce first edition of the first volume of Illinois politician and historian Moses' magnum opus, a comprehensive work which took the author 11 years to complete. (Howes M-856).
