Small 4to, cloth, dust jacket, illustrated, 514 pp. Dust jacket with some slight wear and small tear at the top of the spine, dj also slightly browned, remnant of old price sticker on front flap, internally very slight aging; overall contents are generally bright and clean, a very nice copy. A wonderfully illustrated and encyclopedic approach to the subject of book illumination . The author begins his review of the subject with the methods of ancient book illustration, including the Book of the Dead, to the fifteenth and eighteenth centuries with a look at Books of Hours, and Indian book paintings.
