Prima edizione in lingua italiana del 1558 di questa splendida opera sugli epitaffi e le medaglie raccolte dall'autore durante i suoi viaggi in Italia, lo storico e astronomo fiorentino Gabriel Simoni (1509-1576). Stampata a Lione, è una delle edizioni più belle stampate da Jean de Tournes "L'ingéniosité de la mise en pages est tout à fait remarquable" (Brun, 294) Contemporaneamente a questa edizione venne pubblicata alcune settimane prima la versione francese che omise parte del testo e 17 illustrazioni. Dedica ad Alfonso D'este Principe di Ferrara. Frontespizio architetonico, ritratto dell'autore al verso del frontespizio e 68 finissime incisioni di medaglie, epitaffi e i dodici segni dello Zodiaco, molte attribuite all'incisore Bernard Salomon. Due fogli con antiche note manoscritte sull'opera uno dei quali incollato al piatto posteriore. Sguardie marmorizzate. Tagli dorati. In ottime condizioni. Copertina in mezza pelle con titolo e decorazioni in oro al dorso in buone condizioni generali con lievi usure ai margini e dorso. Legatura in buone condizioni. Published in Lyon, is one of the most beautiful editions published by Jean de Tournes "L'ingéniosité de la mise en pages est tout à fait remarquable" (Brun, 294) Contemporary to this edition, some weeks before was published the first french version which omitted part of the text and 17 illustrations.
