This a very nice copy of the rare Elephant Folio edition (17 * 14 inch). Jones, inspector of schools and antiquary, settled in Beaumaris, on Anglesey, to make a living by writing: he contributed twenty-six articles to Blackwood's Magazine between 1840 and 1849. In 1848 Kay-Shuttleworth appointed him her majesty's inspector (HMI) of church schools for the whole of Wales, a post which Jones used to urge the acknowledgment of the principality's distinctive needs. His passionate espousal of the Welsh language and its culture brought him into conflict with the education department. See ODNB for a full Bio. (Lowndes 1225. COPAC. WorldCat)
