Osaka Japan: Torataro Hayashi, 1909. (JPN) Meiji 42 (1909) The covers are soiled and have spots with some rubbing to edges and cover corner tips; the back cover hinges is stratig to detach, pages generally clean with some spots here and there, Fair used copy; no dust jacket. 10.75 x 7.75", grey cloth cover with blind embossed design, 384pp. The book maily consists of diagrams showing beams, and intricate eave structures with lines and notes for laying out the work and positioning the cuts with names translated as "Shiken Sumigen method" and "Eavesumi Genu Method". The text is entirely in Japanese and my tranlations of the title and author may be faulty (Please see photos). There is a B&W forntis portrait of Yoshida Kamaoka. Kameda Yoshiro authored a set of three woodblock-printed books on Japanese carpentry titled Kikujinjo Daikoshinhinagatadizen which were published in 1894.The fusion of craftsmanship and artistry in these books provides a glimpse into the rich heritage of Japanese woodworking.
