Imperial College, England, 1962. First Edition. Hardcover (Original Cloth). Good Condition (ex-library)/No Dust Jacket. Foreword by Patrick Linstead. At the end of each lecture is a section of either references or acknowledgements. The text is illustrated with black-and-white illustrations, photographs and line drawings. Red coloured cloth covered boards with gilt coloured titles to the back strip. The fourth in the series of Imperial College Inaugural Lectures covering the years 1960 through to 1962. The lectures range over contemporary issues through to old problems looked at a new. Quoting from the Foreward page IV " ... Although the subjects of the lectures range very widely they are bound together by the recurrent theme of the essential interdependence between science and progressive technology." This book is an ex-library copy – from the Defense Standards Laboratories Library – and has the faults of same: – library stamps, including cancellation stamps to the end pages and to the title page. Library barcode to the lower left hand corner of the title page and top left hand corner of the front panel. Library sticker to the lower edge of the back strip. Due back pocket is still in situ to the rear paste-down softening of the back strip edges with rubbing of the book corners. The panel show rubs marks and patchy fading with sunning of the back strip. Age toning of the text block edges and pages. Pages 145 to page 156 have come away from the text block for approximately half the length of the text block. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
