London, Arthur Barker, 1949.. FIRST EDITION 1949, 8vo, cloth printed all over with black, white and sepia illustration, gilt lettering to spine on black panel, top edges grey, 156 pages. Black and white illustrations heightened with pale mauve, some full page. The story concerns the love of the poet Dante for Beatrice set in 14th century Italy. No inscriptions, book leaning, head and tail of spine and corners just slightly rubbed, small corner cut from front endpaper, endpapers, half-title, title page and last 2 pages faintly foxed. A very good copy in good plus DUSTWRAPPER (dw: not price clipped, 25 mm (1") missing at top of spine, not affecting title, 10 mm (½") chips to corners and tail of spine, spine and folds slightly rubbed).
